NBA star Draymond Green raises concerns over a double standard treatment in the NBA

Throughout the world of sports athletes have always been outspoken on issues they deem important. The NBA is no different.

Draymond Green, NBA player for the Golden State Warriors and a three-time NBA champion in his own right, has never been one to shy away from voicing his opinion. Green has recently been making waves for his actions off the court.

Green made headlines when he spoke at his postgame news conference on Monday night, February 15th, following the Golden State Warriors 129–98 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Green states that there is a double standard treatment of players in the NBA. Green believes it is unfair that an NBA team can announce that they are looking to trade a player and not receive any blowback, yet when an NBA player requests a trade, they are turned into villains and seen as unprofessional in the media.

Clearly Green’s message was received. According to an analysis of Google search data, Draymond Green became a trending search topic the remainder of the week following Monday night’s postgame conference. Green was searched 100 percent on February 16th, 89 percent on February 18th and 97 percent on February 21st.

Green has definitely shed a light on this double standard and the mental health impact it can have on players. Let’s hope the NBA and the NBPA can work together in making changes.
